Dearest God,

I learned an important truth during the three-week waiting period for my husband to have open heart surgery. That truth is this:  God never lets us fall through the cracks.  A spiritual netting drapes the cracked places in our lives. When the cracks further widen and deepen, the netting grows stronger creeping farther downward catching us before we fall into the abyss.

Faith increases our hope, gives us courage and strength, and places peace in all the ominous places. We don't have to cry out in pain or beg you to come to us because you are already waiting for us in the future, the next hour, the next minute, and the next second.  We never step into emptiness in the future.  You always are there to greet us.

As we readied for Harold's surgery with all its risks and complications, we had the deep sense of your living presence.  When either of us became aware of building fear inside us, we could feel not only the weight of our burden but also the stretch of the spiritual fabric holding us.  What can I say to this glorious truth but thanks be to the God of our faith!!!

Holy One,
defender of faith
and peace,
our hearts
are full
of gratitude
and thanksgiving.
Receive our joy
and utmost appreciation.

Love, Andrea and Harold
