Dear God,
Your purpose is always greater than our own. Your thoughts and desires far exceed any human wonderings. Your will is forever better.
If we stand far off and call your name, we act as if you are in some distant place. If we ask you to come to us, it is as if we are the center of our universe and we expect you to move to where we are. If we ask you to do for us what we cannot or we are not wiling to do ourselves, it is like the slave expecting the master to do his/her bidding.
Faith begins with you, Almighty God, not with ourselves. Faith is an acknowledgement of creation's best because it begins with the Creator. Faith speaks first about you. Faith honors the holiness of the God who creates it. Faith lives, breathes, and manifests itself as God-given gift.
Only after these do we recognize our self, our devotion, and our desire to be in relationship to you. As humans we acknowledge our place in you, not your place in us for do so is to infer we are greater than you. When faith is authentic, dear God, we follow the movement of your spirit in us. You move us to worship, to act, to believe, to pray, to love, to serve, and to give. We are inspired because we can hardly conceive of the love and mercy you have toward us. With such devotion we want to show our love, we want to do your will, we want to love as you love, forgive as you forgive, and reach out as you reach out.
When I face a difficult situation alone, I say I have no faith, no desire for your will, and certainly no passion for seeking your counsel. On the contrary when I drop to my knees in acknowledgment of my place in your life, I practice faith, love, trust, and hope. I take your outstretched hand and together we walk the pilgrim way.
Remind me
again and again
to follow,
to be
faith-filled,
and to
be faithful,
I pray.
Love, Andrea
