Dearest God,

So often we look down as we walk through life.  We never miss our footsteps but we miss everything above our waist.  Although we may stumble upon beauty in certain places, we never get to see all that is above us.

Last night we ate at a nice restaurant and then decided to take a drive around our village town.  It had rained and droplets dripped down the car windows.  The sun began to shine as we looked at some of the old homes.  I don't know what it was but suddenly I gazed upward and there high in the sky was one of the most spectacular rainbows I have ever seen.  With vivid rainbow colors we could not take our eyes off the amazing beauty.  As people walked by our car, we pointed up and they paused to lift their eyes to the heavens.  One man pulled out his camera and started taking pictures.  The whole scene lasted about five minutes but we were awed by what we saw.

The spiritual life is so like that, Lord.  If we only look down, we will surely miss many of your displays of incredible beauty.  But if we look up, we will not only witness incredible beauty but also amazing displays of your glory.

Lift our eyes,
dear God,
lift our eyes
to you.
Restore our desire
to look up.
Thank you
for the
wondrous gift today.
