Dear God,

We laughed so many times, not at other people, but at ourselves.  We talked with silly voices.  We said crazy things. We made funny faces.  We put on funny hats and took pictures.  We laughed and laughed.

What a gift laughter is, O Lord.  You give us the capacity to laugh at ourselves.  You make room for silliness and foolishness.  You let laughter rise up out of our bellies, bend us over, and make tears to run.  Such laughter clears out doubt, disappointment, and anger, making space for other things so much better.  It softens us.

As we think upon your many gifts, we count laughter as one of them.

Holy God,
thank you
for all
the many ways
you bless us.
Thank you
for laughter
and its power
to help,
hope,
and heal.
Thank you
for love
that undergirds
it all.

Love, Andrea
