Dear God,
Some hymns move us to new heights of faith. Sometimes they open closed doors and windows to the heart, mind, and soul. Often they invite us to journey on less traveled roads.
In worship yesterday when we sang, "Holy are you, Lord God Almighty," I thought about the word holy. What does it mean to be holy? Pure, unblemished, loving, living presence. Yes, you are holy, Lord, holy indeed.
But how can I become holy? Most days I look at myself and think there is nothing holy about me. Although you made me in your image, I realize there is little to nothing that identifies me as a member of your family. Although I believe in Jesus Christ and in the Holy Spirit, I wonder how I can call myself a Christian when I do not live a holy life. I want to but rarely do I.
Thank you,
Gracious God,
for a
new invitation
to rise up
in holiness.
Thank you
for counting me
as one
of your own
even though
I barely
resemble you.
Thank you
for opening me
to your presence
so I
can take
another look
at myself.
You are worthy
of all
my praise,
O Lord.
Thank you.
Love, Andrea
