Dear God,
Oh to have eyes of faith that enable us to see and hear you. With eyes of faith we see light in darkness, hope in the midst of despair, and peace in the midst of conflict. All this is possible with you.
Sometimes we look far and wide for a semblance of peace. We want that soothing ointment that calms frazzled nerves and ragged anxiety. We want the prince of peace who has the power to give peace to us.
I suppose part of the reason for annual Christmas events is to return to the source of that heavenly power. As a people, as individuals we desperately need faith's kind of peace. We want to give ourselves to the quiet tranquility that comes in deeply knowing you. We remember the words of the psalmist, "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul." May the psalmist's words become our own.
Blessed God,
Hope of the World,
we come
to you today
asking for peace,
but not
just any peace.
We want
your peace,
for it
the only kind
of peace
that is real
and lasting.
Love, Andrea
