Dear God,

You brought hope to our family on the birth of our grandchild on September 11, 2004.  A little redhead, you gave us great joy.

When my daughter began labor, she cried to me that she did not want her child born on such a tragic day.  But I told her it was a day when she could bring hope to all, not tragedy, sorrow and grief.  That she did.

Sometimes we can only see one way.  You, O Lord, show us there is another way to think, to reflect and to consider.  You help us see light in the midst of darkness, hope in the midst of despair and life in the midst of death.  You urge us to rise up to you, to take your hand and to shake the scales from our eyes.  You want us to see what you see.

Charlie celebrated 16 years today and we give thanks because she is very bright, top of her class, witty, loving, compassionate, and a fighter for social justice.  Yes, indeed hope in the midst of despair!

Living God,
we celebrate
your love
for us,
your mercy
and compassion.
Thank you
for your presence
among us.
Thank you
for Charlie,
your beloved child
and ours.

Love always, Andrea
