Dear God,
What is faith in a war zone? How do we hold onto faith during desperate times? How can faith make a difference?
I'm not sure why this question came to me this morning. It just did. Is it because every situation calls us to consider what faith really is and its fruitfulness? Is it a dry set of beliefs that have no relevance when called upon? Or is it more than we always thought it was?
Faith must be living before we can truly practice it. It must be at the cellular DNA level to have any meaning or power for human life. Faith is not only a relationship, set of beliefs and trust but also the air we breathe, our ability to be and to truly love. Faith is seeing more than is visible. It is knowing the more is deeper and wider than we ourselves. If all this is so, then faith is everything in a war zone. It gives us a connection to divine and loving power. It envelopes us in a divine embrace. It holds us. It also equips and empowers us to do more than we thought possible. It gives us courage, strength and hope. It sustains us and serves as a witness to others in their own dark and dangerous place.
Increase our faith,
O Lord.
Make it viable
in every situation.
Breathe into us
your life,
love and power.
Create us
to be witnesses
to this faith
that always comes
from you.
Yours, Andrea
