Dear God,

As I look out my kitchen window, I see that the sun has lighted up the side of my neighbor's home.  Yet, everything around it is still shadow.  It reminds me of the light and the darkness on which you spoke many times.

In life we need light and darkness for how can we see one without the other?  The light shines the brightest when the darkness is truly dark.  Night skies provide the setting for the magnificent, white, twinkling stars.  Who is not caught up in the beauty of a brilliant night sky?

Although we do not like to face the shadow side of our lives, these moments offer the backdrop for more light to emerge.  When we trust you more and more, we shall see more light even as we pass through some of our deepest darkness.

Wondrous God,

for teaching us

the lessons

of life.

Shine your light

in our darkness,

O God,

shine brightly.

Then fill

our mouths

with praise

for you.
