Dear God,

Today begins our retreat together, you and I.  I have everything I need in the hermitage, food, clothing, devotional books, toiletries and music.  

You called me first to the ocean.  I took my breakfast sandwich and coffee and found a secluded seat at the ocean's edge.  I sat for two hours and began my listening.  Funny how I left all that other stuff in the car so I could hear you.  Funny and strange and wonderful.

I could feel the simplicity of waves washing ashore, seagulls gliding on the breeze and sitting in silence.  Like warm arms around me, I felt love come over me and hold me.  

O God,

keep those

strong arms

around me,

I pray.

I love

this time

with you

and all

you hold dear.

Keep me close,

dear Father,

keep me close.
