Dear God,

Agony, pain and despair can lodge themselves into the depths of our soul.  They can weigh us down, immobilize us, and suck the life out of us.  They can rob us of everything good.  Our perspective can change making us believe the future will simply be more of the same.

Today a woman called crushed by yet another sorrow.  Although she has been taking every day steps to survive her losses, this latest disappointment threatened to undo her.  She was so hurt.  I could feel the darkness coming through the telephone.

As we talked I felt your spirit moving, recognizing once again how your mercy and compassion are deeper still than any agony, pain or despair we feel.  No matter how deep the darkness, the light, your light is deeper still.  As we dig in the darkness, the light begins to shine or maybe the light was always shining and the darkness fooled us into thinking there was no light.  As we continued I sensed the light was beginning to penetrate her darkness claiming her for your own.

It is a wondrous thing to me how you work to care for us particularly in our painful times.  You rush in, stand by us and blow the air of your good news to us.  As we breathe in the air of your spirit, we find strength, hope, and courage. We find your love opening to us and life begins anew.

Praise you,
O God,
for the power
of your love.
Thank you
for tending
to our needs.
All glory
is yours,
Almighty God,
now and forever.

Love, Andrea
