Dear God,
Wells, wells of living water. Aaahhh! When I think of the wells from which I have drunk living water, I just want to sing your praise. I want to shout hallelujah! I want to give thanks.
Sometimes we live in deserts. Our lives are like dustbowls where no water exists. We long for water to quench our thirst, yet, in practice we eat dust. We refuse to drink from your cup.
When we forget or neglect you, when we choose an alternative kind of life, or we go about our business denying you, we slowly move into deserts that offer little nourishment. One day we awaken and find ourselves lost, lonely, and afraid. We realize the fact that dust will not feed us. At some point we want water, not just any water, but living water. We want to drink from your hand.
The beautiful thing is living water is always available, accessible, and free. You offer it to us daily. You know we need it for healthy, meaningful living. When you provide living water, you offer us you.
Holy God,
show us
the way
to this
living water.
Forgive us
when we
build roads
into the desert.
Thank you
for forgiving us
and giving us drink anyway.
Love, Andrea
